“Girl Ascending” 15”W x 30”H x 6”D, Macdonald has a fascination with the sport of rock climbing. Good climbers are not just trying to reach the top, they are trying to do it artfully. He feels that the body contortions of the climbers possess a grace almost akin to ballet. This marquetry piece is somewhat unique in that the climbing woman has not been inlaid into the surface of the background, but is placed on the “rock”, which is of european oak burl. Upon opening you will find a mirror on the back of the cabinet with a small compartment at the bottom to hold a brush or what-have-you.
